Our Community Service Projects

Education – Women’s Empowerment – Nutrition

Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in the Western Hemisphere so as you can imagine there are many needs within the community.

Our focus will be on building up the women’s center & the library where children go to study & get help with their homework. If we generate enough funds we may be able to impact the nutritional program they have running as well!

Education: Impacting Community Library

Main Objectives will include

  • Generating funds for 1 year (Nica) Salary for a librarian/ tutor to help local children with study and home work. The person we have in mind is named Adonís. He is an amazing bright Nica who has been working in the library with little to no pay at any given time. His passion for education coupled with his patience makes him the perfect person for the job
  • Get 4 computers for the community to have access to
  • Instal faster WiFi generate funds to pay for 1 year of service
  • Renew Shelving for books
  • Paint inside of Library (where are my artists!?)
  • We may be able to raise enough money to send Adonís to an educational program that could make him qualified to train teachers how to teach more effectively.  *

Women’s Empowerment: Impacting Women’s Center

Machismo is a concept that dictates many aspects of Latin American male behavior. In some areas of Nicaragua machismo is prevalent and it is common for men not to allow their wives to work or do many activities that allow them to experience independence. Some women have actually been told by their husbands not to go to the Women’s Center. Through our support of this center we can help encourage its momentum and provide a place for women to gather.

The women here have learned the skill of sewing and a few are consistently sewing small pouches, fanny packs, back packs, water bottle holders & other things.

Objectives

  • Get a projector & computer to play informational videos to help educate community. There is a great spot here to play videos.
  • Paint Inside. While i was there the women were so happy to hear that there would finally be some color <3
  • Finish outside with cement & Paint
  • I’m still brainstorming how we can potentially sell their products in the states. If you have ideas please let me know!

Nutrition: Feeding Nutrient Deficient Children

There are 32 children who rely on the Nutritional Facility to get proper nutrition however this facility is running out of funds.

Our goal would be to raise enough money to feed these children for 1 year. *

We are currently brainstorming ways to make this program more self sustaining. For example teaching the women of these children how to make a product (bread maybe) to sell within the community.

Lastly we will purchase and pain a couple of extra benches so there will be adequate seating for all of the children

Quotes on all of these action plans are still coming in so the ones that i have put a maybe on or an astrict will be confirmed when i know we will have adequate funds to properly execute them. Please let me know if you have ideas or questions.

Some of these tasks will be completed before we arrive. Some (like painting) will be getting hands on with 🙂

March 18th I will have a video you can share that will let others know what it is we are going to do and a GoFundMe page where your friends can donate to these causes <3

Location

We will be in Uvita, Costa Rica, about 3 hours south east of the San Jose airport

The city is surrounded by lush jungle and home to the “whales tail” National park and many other breath taking beaches.

To get to Uvita you will have to fly into Costa Rica’s main airport in San Jose called San Jose Int Airport (SJO)

From the airport I can help you organize a shuttle to Uvita (about 2.5 hours).
